Heat is about twelve year-old Michael Arroyo, who immagrated from Cuba with his dad, Papi, and older brother, Carlos. His dad is a taxi driver in the Bronx, a part of New York City. One day his dad drove a woman to her apartment and she was getting beat up by her boyfriend so Papi defended her and beat the man so he ran away then Papi came home and had a heart attack. So Michael lives with his brother and they keep Papi's death a secret  to keep  them from getting seperated by the Children's Council. Michael's baseball team is so close to getting to Williamsburg because he's tall and a great pitcher thatthe  other coaches don't beleve he is ten, and Michael l;eft his Birth Cirtificate. This is making it worse for their little secret  and Carlos turns eighteen in April so he'll have custody. But Mr. Gibbs from the council disbelieves about Papi being alive. Will they make it through the two seasons? Read the book and find out.
